Climate change is real and we need to act fast. Our purpose is to restore the carbon balance in our atmosphere. We believe it’s important to have a positive impact on society, the economy, and the climate. Are you ready to join us on our mission? 🌎
Some context
Let’s start with giving you an idea of the context your graduation project takes place in. However, before we do that, we have to share a disclaimer; as your graduation project will be in the heart of our technology we cannot fully disclose technical details. Alternatively, we’ll give you some cryptic insights — no need to worry; if you have a job interview, we’ll disclose all the nitty-gritty details.
Conceptually, our technology consists of a sorbent (to which the CO2 adsorbs) which is put in a bigger mechanical system. As the process of adsorbing/desorbing CO2 is heavily thermal and flow oriented, it imaginably comes with the engineering challenge to control these processes. Also with the right mechanical design.
And that’s where your graduation project comes in. We’re currently heads-down on developing a mechanical part to optimize the constant movement of this sorbent, being a compressible medium. It’s your graduation assignment to design a concept that minimizes gas leakages that occur due to the compressible medium interfacing with a quasi-static mechanical part. Next to that, the concept should be robust against mechanical and medium inaccuracies and inexpensive to produce at large scale.
It’s not purely about conceptually finding the optimum here. You’ll also put it into the real world by further developing the initial test setup (which has been created by our Mechanical Engineer Koen Broeksteeg). As this test setup can be seen as a minimum viable test setup right now, there are plenty of improvements that can be implemented.
Ultimately, you can conclude it’s a broadly oriented graduation project which goes beyond having the correct calculations. It’ll get you into the real world of engineering as it comes with testing and manufacturability too!
Initial scope of your graduation project
Hopefully, you have a first impression of the project you’ll work on despite the limitation of not being able to share everything at this point. Your daily supervisors, Koen Broeksteeg (Mechanical Engineer) & Sjoerd de Vries (Mechanical Architect) created a scope – including a sequence* – of your graduation project. This can be considered as your graduation project, which can be found below.
Chapter 1 - Update test setup by looping back insights from initial tests (1-2 months)
Chapter 2 - Develop testing plan (including statistics; DOE) (1 month)
Chapter 3 - Concept development and testing (2-3 months)
Chapter 4 - Reporting (1 month)
Chapter 5 - FEM Modelling (optional)
*This is a preferred sequence. However, if this doesn’t fit the requirements (e.g. if you should start with concepting) we can puzzle around with the given ‘chapters’ of your graduation project.
Why join us?
We are a purpose-driven team of international engineers, researchers, and business professionals. We do not get easily discouraged and we join forces to ensure our dream comes true. At the heart of it all, there are people inspired by our purpose: reversing climate change!
We offer you to
Our ideal candidate is someone who
Brings an entrepreneurial approach. With that, we refer to you being able to dive into deep. Being able to find your way and get things in motion within the hectic start-up environment. We’ll definitely support you, and we’ll never let you sink. But it’s you who owns the initiative. Next to that, you’re;
